about

The rain is falling gently as I write this, and that’s good for meditation on the form and feeling that is the Wharton Tiers Ensemble. Instrumental, suggestive little nuggets of the rich tapestry of human music. It’s about the journey, really; start somewhere familiar and go. Find something new along the way, a few dreams and surprises...Maybe that’s a lot to put on four or five guitars, sax, bass, and drums, but here you have it! Pressed into vinyl, no less! All the time it took to get here, well, I can’t thank those Musicians enough. Let it Spin! – Wt 2018

All songs PM2018 Whartontime Music/ASCAP

All songs recorded and mixed by Wharton Tiers at Fun City Studio, East 22nd St, NYC (2, 3, 4, 5, 7) and Spider’s Keep, Milford, PA (1, 6). “Drink Ticket” is the last song recorded at Fun City.

All songs on this album began their life on a Tascam MSR-24 analog machine and FZ-1 (Fun City) pre amps, then were mixed analog to digital using Logic, except Track 7, which was mixed to tape then digitized using Sound Designer. Original 24-track analog-to-digital transfers performed at The Kennel, Brooklyn, NY.

Wharton did the majority of the engineering, assisted by the "invisible engineer" when he played drums.

All songs recorded live with minimal overdubs or fixes to get that "live feeling." All material written by Wharton, with fantastic contributions from all the performers!

Wharton Tiers plays Slingerland drums. Amps by Fender, Marshall and Yamaha, through stock or Celestion "Sidewinder" speakers.

Mastered by John Hull at Musicol, Columbus, OH.

Album design by Jim Santo
Photography: Mark Richards (back cover, insert), Jim Santo (inner sleeve), and Wharton Tiers (front cover).
